Conference Focuses on Labor Issues, Family Medical Leave Act
The Labor Relations and Human Resources Conference will be held Oct. 29-31 at the Omni La Mansion del Rio Hotel, San Antonio. The three-day event will include presentations on:
- the changing political environment;
- FMLA and military family leave;
- labor issues;
- globalization in metalcasting;
- safety in the metalcasting facility;

Regional to Host Metalcasting Solutions Seminar for Casting Buyers, CMI Marketing Course, Technical Sessions for Metalcasters, Plant Tours
The 2008 East Coast Regional Conference will be held Oct. 2-4 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort, York, Pa. Prior to the official conference kick-off, AFS will be sponsoring its Metalcasting Solutions Seminar on Wed., Oct. 1 at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort. In this seminar, casting buyers and designers will:
- discuss the casting processes;
- review the various alloy families;
- see casting design successes;
- learn about technological advancements in metalcasting.
If you are a buyer, attend this workshop to learn more about what metalcasting can do for you. If you are a metalcaster, show buyers what you can do by exhibiting with a table top. Click here for more information.

Lost Foam Conference Offers Modeling Technology Update, Research
The International Lost Foam Conference will be held Oct. 21-23 at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel, Asheville, N.C. This conference will benefit casting buyers, designers and producers. Attendees will gain a greater understanding of the unique benefits of lost foam casting and stay on the leading edge of developments in lost foam casting technology. Key topics discussed include:
- lost foam with vacuum and pressure;
- current and future research;
- lost foam cast iron application studies;
- magnesium lost foam casting;
- modeling technology update for casting and foam pattern production;
- performing air emission calculations;

Registration Open for Campbell Workshop
For the second year, AFS is offering a practical two-day workshop with Professor John Campbell, Univ. of Birmingham, U.K., focusing on the structure and properties of castings and reduction of entrainment defects. The workshop is scheduled for Nov. 12 at AFS Headquarters and will draw attention to the latest concepts regarding the filling and feeding of castings and ways to reduce scrap, raise quality and reduce costs.
