Webinar to Focus on Metalcasting Forecast, Trends
What is the current state of U.S. metalcasting and what factors will influence it in the coming years? To bring this information to you, AFS is producing a 30-minute webinar on Wednesday, April 23, at 11:00 AM EST. Developed from intensive research and interviews of casting users and producers, this webinar will analyze casting shipments from both a producer and buyer perspective, and take a look at the global market and how it affects U.S. shipments.

Employees of Corporate Members are encouraged to register for this free webinar by going to www.afsinc.org/forecastandtrendswebinar. Others, please contact Dave Krugman, AFS PR and marketing coordinator, at dkrugman@afsinc.org or 800/537-4237 for a personal invitation.

Notification Requirement Released for Iron, Steel Facilities
Under the iron and steel foundry area source regulation, metalcasting facilities that are subject to the rule (both small and large area source foundries) must submit an initial notification that identifies the facility for EPA and the state as being subject to the rule. The deadline for submitting the initial notification is May 1, 2008.

To assist foundries in preparing the initial notification, Mike Blankestyn and Craig Schmeisser of RMT prepared a sample notification, which can be downloaded from the AFS website at www.afsinc.org/ironandsteelnotification. The sample notification can be used as a guide to submit the required information. It is recommended that each facility subject to the iron and steel foundry area source rule submit the initial notification to the appropriate EPA Regional Office (with attention to the air program) and the state air regulatory agency.

If you have any questions regarding the initial notification, please contact Jeff Hannapel or Christian Richter at jhannapel@thepolicygroup.com or crichter@thepolicygroup.com.

AMC Tech Review to Highlight Metalcasting Technologies
The American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC) invites you to attend the 2008 AMC Technology Review, which will be held June 25-26, in Chicago, Ill. This year's review will highlight new metalcasting technologies addressing the Defense Logistics Agency's procurement process to eliminate backorders, reduce procurement lead times, enhance part quality and ensure a reliable U.S. metalcasting base to improve warfighter readiness.

Registration is free to AFS members. For more information or to register, visit http://www.amc.aticorp.org/techreview.html.

4/24: Metalcasting Solutions Seminar -- Last Chance
The AFS Metalcasting Solutions seminar will be held April 24 at the Hilton Garden Inn-Chicago O'Hare Airport, Des Plaines, Ill. The focus of the seminar is to bring metalcasters together with casting buyers and designers to discuss casting processes, review the various alloy families, see casting design successes and learn about technological advancements in metalcasting. If you are a buyer, attend this workshop to learn more about what metalcasting can do for you. If you are a metalcaster, show buyers your capabilities.

For more information, or to register for this seminar, contact AFS customer service at 800/537-4237, or click here for more information.

Casting Design Course Coming
CMI will be offering a Casting Design course June 17-19 at AFS/CMI headquarters, Schaumburg, Ill. Instructors emphasize an innovative, conceptual approach to the design of metal castings throughout the course. Students will learn to select an alloy and how it impacts the design boundaries of a casting. The session also examines a systems approach to casting design. Communications between designer, patternmaker and casting producer are stressed throughout the course. The correlation between costing processes and the design of the casting is reviewed.

A tour of a metalcasting facility is tentatively scheduled. The facility reserves the right to refuse entry to any competitor.

For more information, or to attend this course, contact AFS customer service at 800/537-4237, or click here to register.
