The 77th annual AFS Southeastern Regional Conference will be held Feb. 10-12, 2010 at Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel in Cherokee, NC. The program will include a special session on reducing operating costs in a metalcasting facility.

OSHA Implements New Weekly Fatality Report
OSHA has added a new section on its website to draw attention to employee fatalities and catastrophes. Under this new directive, facilities that have experienced a work-related death or the in-patient hospitalization of three or more employees as a result of a work-related incident must report the situation to the OSHA Area office within eight hours.

Recently, two United States Courts of Appeals ruled that U.S. federal courts can decide that private emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs) are liable for creating a public nuisance.

CastExpo'10 Kicks Off with Pre-Expo Workshops
CastExpo'10 will kick-off with two workshops that will include the presenations: Cost Reduction and Quality Increase-A Formula for Success, Professor John Campbell, Univ. of Birmingham, U.K. and Quality Tools: Abused, Misused and Too Little Used Tools, Ted Schorn, Enkei America. A third CMI sponsored workshop Lean Manufacturing for Metalcasters, Frank E. Peters, Ph.D., Iowa State Univ., will be available as well.
