AFS to Find Lightweight Casting Solutions, Create Jobs
AFS is currently soliciting white papers for evaluation and funding consideration for a new Advanced Lightweight Casting Solutions (ALCS) for Defense Applications program. White papers are being considered in three broad categories including metalcasting process improvement and advancement, process modeling and simulation improvements and cast material improvements, with a focus on efforts to reduce component weight.

Metalcasting Technology Theater to Include President's Session, Energy Matters: The Effect of Energy Cost on Profitability, Economic Forum
The new Metalcasting Technology Theater at CastExpo'10 will include the several presentations that will help increase your productivity and profitability, including an Economic Forum discussing the current and future status of the metalcasting industry, the presentation "Energy Matters: The Effect of Energy Cost on Profitability," and the AFS President's Session.

The theater will be located on the CastExpo exhibit floor, will complement the annual Metalcasting Congress sessions and will be open to all attendees.

CastExpo'10 will be held March 20-23 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Fla. To register for the show, visit castexpo.com.

Iron, Steel Foundry Area Source Rule Compliance Deadlines Approaching
On Jan. 2, 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published the final iron and steel foundry area source rule in the Federal Register. EPA issued the standard based on generally available control technology (GACT) for the control of the following urban hazardous air pollutants (HAPs): chromium, lead, manganese and nickel. The final rule sets emission limits for large area source facilities and requires them to comply with pollution prevention management practices and notification and record keeping requirements.
