New Online Library Released, Offers Free Article in Exchange for Survey Response
AFS announces the release of an updated and advanced library website located at www.afslibrary.com. The library website houses the world's largest collection of metalcasting reference material with more than 37,000 papers and articles available for purchase.
The new online AFS library utilizes state-of-the-art functionality and is powered by a Google search engine. The state-of-the-art Google functionality allows for articles the reader is searching for to be displayed in order, by most popular content. The updated interface of the website also will help users find articles easier, and allow for web-based downloads of AFS copyright material.
As an added incentive to promote the new library, AFS is offering a free article in exchange for your feedback in a brief survey. Simply browse the online library and click here to give us your feedback. Make sure to include which article you would like for free when taking the survey. We will contact you with details on how to receive your paper shortly after you submit your feedback.
“The new online library allows the global industry unprecedented access to a technical resource unlike anything else in the world,” said Jerry Call, AFS executive vice president.
For more information on the new library website, contact Katie Doherty, AFS information resource assistant, at kdoherty@afsinc.org or 847/824-0181.
Employee Free Choice Act: Organized Labor's Big Price
Union organizations are pushing hard to make the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) the top priority issue when the 111th Congress convenes in Jan. Their efforts, if proven successful, would make it easier for workers to form unions by essentially eliminating a requirement that unions be launched via a secret ballot vote.
Specifically, it would give union organizers free rein to pressure workers into signing authorization cards. Once enough workers are persuaded to sign, the union would automatically be certified, and it would be illegal for workers to have a secret ballot election. Then the bill would implement a compressed schedule for employers to bargain with their new union.
AFS opposes the EFCA and has joined forces with an alliance of pro-business groups called the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace (CDW). To help stop the anti-business agenda, visit the CDW website and sign the petition against card check at www.myprivateballot.com. The CDW website also contains background materials on the EFCA and its implications for the business community.
