North American Metalcasters on Display at Newcast 2009
The 2009 Newcast trade show will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany, on June 23-25. This trade show has been held concurrently with GIFA in the past. Newcast is now branching out to an every 2-year trade show where metal casters show off their capabilities to casting buyers. This is your plant’s chance to exhibit and shine its casting prowess.
For the 2009 show, AFS is co-sponsoring a North American pavilion to help more North American metalcasters exhibit themselves on the global stage. The North American pavilion is unique in that it provides exhibitors a turnkey 3m x 3m booth (furniture, storage, table, chairs, etc.) for a set fee of $6650. In addition, those exhibiting in the pavilion have access to an interpreter, a lounge and other amenities included in your booth fee.
The expectation is to have 350 exhibiting metalcasters from around the world and 5,000-7,000 casting buyers (mostly from the EU) in attendance at Newcast 2009. Based on the results AFS had from its booth at the 2007 show, we feel this is a great opportunity for any metalcasters looking to secure further international business.
If you wish to apply for an exhibit space in the North American Pavilion, contact Ryan Klemm, Messe Dusseldorf North America, at rklemm@mdna.com or 312/781-5180 to receive an application and other exhibiting information, or click here to download an application in .pdf format.

Be Red Flag Ready with New Identification Theft Rules
By May 1, 2009 all businesses that extend credit to their customers will need to be in full compliance with the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act. The act requires that companies with covered accounts must have an identity theft prevention program that includes policies and procedures to identify relevant red flags. A red flag is defined as a pattern, practice or specific activity that indicates the possible existence of identity theft. Covered accounts under the act include anyone who arranges for the extension, renewal or continuation of credit. Examples of this include credit card accounts, cell phone accounts and any other account where there is a reasonably foreseeable risk to a customer or financial institution from identity theft.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, a reasonable plan to safeguard personal information includes:
- designating an employee or employees to coordinate and be responsible for the security program;
- identifying material internal and external risks to security of these personal data;
- designating and implementing reasonable safeguards to control the risks identified in the risk assessment;
- continually evaluating and adjusting the security plan in light of the result of ongoing monitoring and testing of the program, material changes to business arrangements, or to the company's operations or any other circumstances that could have a material impact on the effectiveness of the security plan;
- creating a mitigation plan.
Metalcasters should review the red flag rules to determine if they are covered and, if so, the actions required to comply with them. To view the rules, click here.
